If you're anything like me, you've gone a little soft around the midsection, and are completely frustrated with the dozens of different diets you've tried with no success. I've read literally dozens of different diet manuals from Protein Power to Atkins to The ABC Diet. They all claim to be the easiest way for everyone to lose weight, and that there is absolutely no way you can fail.

Diet books are all full of bunk.

Anyway, about 3 weeks ago, a friend of mine recommended that I check out "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" by Tom Venuto. Now, I really had no interest in reading another hyped-up weight loss book that has no chance of helping me make any progress with my weight problem. But, this is a pretty good friend, and I didn't want to offend him by not taking his advice. So, I broke down, and checked out the website.

When I got to the website I was pretty impressed with what it had to say. But, I was still thinking...

Writing a website that sells a weight loss book is a lot different than writing a weight loss book that actually works.

But, my buddies recommendation kept ringing in my head, so I gave it a shot. I bought the book and opened it up.

The first thing I noticed is, this book is huge. 300+ pages with hardly any images. This is a lot of information, or at least a lot of fluff. I figured I'll read it for an hour, and if it's not working for me, I'll ask for my money back.

An Hour Just Wasn't Enough... Was it worth it?

  • Does Tom Venuto really know what he's talking about?
  • Can I really burn fat by eating more?
  • What the heck is a "zig-zag" diet, and why is it the all-out easiest way to keep your body at its fat-burning peak?
  • What are the why's, the how's, and the when's to get to the most out of your exercise?

Keep reading to find out more...

The bad news about this book is that it contains so much information that it may seem like your going to go into information overload.

The good news is that Tom actually does a fantastic job of covering all of the information very thoroughly, in terms that anyone can understand. In fact, Tom gives some of the most enlightening explanations of nutrition I've ever read. Here's an example of a small portion of the topics Tom covers in the book.

  • Goal Setting and Its Importance in Weight Loss
  • Metabolic Individuality and Why One Diet Can't Work for Everyone
  • The Importance of Macronutrient Balance
  • Why Some Fats Are Essential and Some Can Kill You
  • How Working Out at the Right Time Can Be 300% More Effective
  • Why Do I Feel So Miserable On Low Carb Diets

Remember that this book is long, really long.  I spent a few hours a day, over the period of about 4 days, reading it. But, I also read every word. What seemed to suck me in more with every word was the fact that...

Tom focuses on what's really important, burning excess body fat, not just losing weight.

He explains exactly why 99% of all diets fail. They focus on losing weight, not fat. I learned that if you aren't eating enough, or the right balance of macronutrients, most of the weight you lose on other diets is probably muscle. That's why you actually get fatter when you stop those other yo-yo diets. You don't have as much muscle anymore, so your body doesn't burn as many calories as it did before your diet. So, when you start eating those same old calories again, they just get stored as extra fat.

So, how do you know if you're losing fat?

It's all in there. This is the first diet book that I've ever read that actually teaches you how to measure your body fat (not just one way, but three different ways), and gives you all the calculations to figure out exactly how many calories your body needs based on your lean body mass versus your body fat percentage. Those calculations alone were worth it all for me. I've never read another book that taught me how to calculate how many calories "I" should be eating everyday to lose weight.

That was another important difference in this book for me. It is written so that you know how to make the information work for "you", whereas, most diet books say that their plan will work for everyone. Tom really stresses the importance of differing body types, and metabolic individuality. He does an excellent job of explaining why there is no way that any one diet can work for everyone. He then gives you the tools to figure out the right diet for you and your metabolism.

After all the time he spends teaching you about the importance of the right amount of calories in your diet, Tom then goes on to teach you exactly what your body does with those calories when it gets them, and why it's so important that you get your calories in a balanced way. You'll learn difference in the calories you get from carbohydrates versus protein versus fat, and why you need to be sure to get all three.

And, here comes the weirdest part...

You'll learn why you need to be eating 5 - 6 times a day!

What?!? That's right, you'll finally understand why you need to be eating more, not less. You'll also see why you actually get less calories on those "all-you-can-eat" high protein diets. I've read a few other books that recommend you eat more often everyday, like The Abs Diet, but none of them made as much sense as Burn The Fat. Tom finally broke it down for me in a way that made perfect sense. And he also provided me the tools to figure out how to make it all work in my schedule, as well as, getting the right amount and types of calories with every meal.

So, is all this information really worth anything? Well, I've only been working the plan for a few weeks now, but I have lost about 4 pounds, and I have to say this is the simplest plan that I've ever tried. Now, don't get me wrong, it's not easy, but it is simple. It only takes a short while to get it all figured out, and then you can pretty much cruise on autopilot. I've determined what my correct calorie intake is, how often I need to be eating, and how much exercise I need to getting. So, now...

There is no guess work. I just run the plan, and I'm seeing results.

I could go on for pages and pages talking about all you can learn from Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle, but why read my review when you could be reading the real thing. If you really want to learn how to shed that excess body fat, and keep it off for life, I recommend you check out Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle by Tom Venuto.
